Join the Faculty of Forestry @ UBC Vancouver campus in celebrating National Forest Week. We will be hosting events through out the week to celebrate our forests and to bring awareness to the role fire plays in shaping our enviroments.

Walk in the Woods

Sunday Sept 20, two tours at 10 AM & 12 PM

Come discover the forest above, below and in between on a guided forest tour in the UBC Botanical garden. Explore and connect with trees that hold up the 300-metre long Canopy Walkway. Meet with grand Firs, Douglas-firs and western red cedars, and learn about the importance of forests to biodiversity and climate change. Special prices for the Canopy Walkway! Learn more.

People of the Land: Dialogue series with the Mapuche Territorial Alliance

Tuesday & Wednesday Sept 22 – 23

People of the Land: Dialogue series with the Mapuche Territorial Alliance will bring together two Indigenous leaders from the Mapuche Nation –Alberto Curamil and Miguel Melin– with Indigenous activists and scholars from North America to exchange ideas and share experiences about land recuperation, opposition to extractive industries on their traditional territories, customary law, and Indigenous childhood, language, and education. Walk and Talk in the Forest

Sunday Sept 20, two tours at 10 AM & 12 PM

Join a local UBC neighbourhood social and exercise group on a walk to celebrate National Forest Week. Group will focus their walk on looking at some old trees on a strip of Pacific Spirit Park that runs between Old Marine Drive and the ocean. Meet by the Old Barn Community Centre.

Forestry Seminar Lunch Series

Tuesday September 22

Join Lori Daniels as she discusses “Wildfire in a warming world” for the Forestry Seminar Brown Bag Lunch Series. Free lunch provided for the first 50 attendees. 12pm – 1pm in the CAWP caseroom.

National Tree Day

Wednesday September 23

National Tree Day will serve as a celebration for all Canadians to appreciate the great benefits that trees provide us – clean air, wildlife habitat, reducing energy demand and connecting with nature. View National Tree day website.
